I thought this might take me until the end of the week to complete, but it seems like everything went smoothly and the upgrade was a success. We have now upgraded to version 8.0.0 of Peertube! This is nearly the latest version of Peertube, we are only behind by two minor versions. I decided to stop here because I plan on adding the chat plugin to Peertube and that one states it's compatible with 8.0.0 and I haven't dug into whether it's compatible with those minor upgrades yet. So, the future plans are to add chat to live videos, ensure that's working, then see if I can bump versions without breaking that plugin.

Again, I'm sorry about all of the downtime. I figured since I had already let the server stay down for so long, I might as well make it worth everyone's while and leave it down a little longer to upgrade the server. If you notice any issues with the site, which may have occurred during upgrades, please let me know by sending me an email at shmalls@shmalls.pw. I have a backup from v6.3.3 and another was done at v7.0.1 so if something is terribly wrong we have two different points we can revert to.

I turned the server back on this morning, 1/27, but again turned the server off in the evening as I decided I should upgrade the server to the latest version. Currently we are sitting at Peertube version 6.3.3 and the newest version is 8.0.1. So I am going to try to go through with all the upgrade processes and hope that it all works out. The downtime in the evening was required so that I could make a backup of the current state of Peertube.

So, the plan is to upgrade the server this week. If anything occurs and the upgrade does not work out perfectly, I may have to roll back to the backup that was taken today. Keep that in mind for any uploads during this week. Hopefully I will not have to roll back but if I do there may be uploads that will be missed. There will also be more downtime in the following days as I shut the server down as I upgrade it.

tldr: I'm upgrading the server. Expect downtime in the coming days. If you upload something this week and then it's not there later in the week, I had to back out of the upgrade. Feel free to re-upload.
